Lafayette General Medical Center

Cancer Center of Acadiana
Patient Navigator

Earlene Ally, RN, BSN
Patient Navigator
Patient navigation is a unique concept to the Lafayette area; though the program is in place at leading cancer centers nationwide.  The patient navigator does exactly what her title says—she navigates, or guides, patients through the complex cancer care system.

There are many cancer resources, both at Cancer Center of Acadiana and in the community, that can offer support.  However, it is often hard for a newly diagnosed patient to know where to turn. Your patient navigator will help guide you to the appropriate resources; thereby improving your access to healthcare services and allowing you to move from diagnosis to treatment more quickly.

The navigator can:
  • Assist with referrals and diagnostic appointments
  • Accompany patients to doctor appointments, if they choose
  • Help patients keep track of and get to appointments
  • Help patients facilitate and streamline communication with their providers
  • Assist patients with insurance paperwork, in a timely manner
  • Assess patients for financial needs, and refer accordingly
  • Connect patients with community resources, support, and health care education
The patient navigator will be your advocate, improving your care experience with encouragement and support.
